Fourth Annual Hero Awards
Presented by Petsmart and Friends of Animal Care and Control
October 28th, 2006

A gala fundraising evening was held recognizing and honoring the impact that animals have on our lives through heroic efforts of service or personal survival. Each year a selected number of animals are chosen to receive the honor of pet hero for the year. In addition, a human hero is also named as someone who has gone above the call of duty to help homeless animals in our community. This year, Rocket, (now proudly owned and spoiled by Barb Steele PACC911 board member)was named an animal hero with the spirit and will to survive against all odds. Rocket was brought to Animal Care and Control after he was taken from an abandoned home where his past "family" had left him to starve to death when they moved. The landlord heard his cries and made the lifesaving call to Animal Care and Control. Rocket was no more than a skeleton when he arrived at the shelter, suffering from severe dehydration from lack of food and water for 30 days. Rocket was in rehab for quite a while. Barb Steele, of PACC911 had to win an essay contest to be able to adopt Rocket... She adores him and now, as you can see, he is living life in grand style! PACC911's founder and President, Bari Mears was named the Human Hero for 2006. PACC911 was surely well represented!
