Diane Barbee

www.dianebarbee.com
Born and raised in Phoenix, Diane has been an artist for as long as she can remember. She studied at an early age with various local artists and loved oil painting. In 1986, she received her BFA at Arizona State University and has been painting ever since. She loves the brilliant warm light of the southwest. Bold color and dramatic compositions are the constants in her work. She enjoys painting landscapes, still lifes and interior spaces, even the occasional figure. She employs textures of all types and sometimes uses drawing on the surface of the paintings. It all adds to the excitement to the piece. She's drawn to the qualities in her work that inspire her life.

She likes her work to show strength in composition, color and texture. She employs bold brush strokes and will define with lines, objects that give them power. She thinks there is honesty in boldness. Her compositions is straight forward, her color is bold and the line is strong. She enjoys the freedom of subject matter her philosophy allows. She loves surprises and hopes that her work will surprise others with its boldness. Life is full of wonder and inspiration, she is an eternal optimist, and she hopes to convey that energy in every painting she creates.

Arlene Blouch
Arlene Herr Blouch was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Her family includes several artists; and she has been interested in art since early childhood. One aunt, Esther Kummer, was a well known artist for her work with Pennsylvania Dutch art and illustrations for books on the art and history of the area. Arlene is primarily a self taught artist. She enjoys sketching and painting, usually in acrylics and watercolors. She is a member of the Arizona Watercolor Association and one of her works was placed into a juried spring show. Linda Budge
www.lmbudge.com
Linda paints expression. The subjects usually have four legs and a variety of ears, noses and tails. Sometimes, they might be found creeping through the desert, perched on a saguaro, or just standing in somebody’s back yard. Wherever they are, Linda has learned to capture their look, their expression, and their attitude! Linda grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where she learned to sketch and paint animals at her family’s cabin in the Wasatch Mountains.

When she and her husband moved to Ohio, she became interested in show dogs, and applied for a license to handle dogs professionally. Learning confirmation and expression and the proper way for a dog to stand, were important, as each breed is very unique. Expression in the dog could mean the difference between first and second place in a competition. Although Linda does not handle dogs professionally any longer, her expertise in the dog world has given her a distinct edge for painting accurately, and most importantly, for capturing expression. Since becoming an Arizona resident, Linda’s career has moved into the southwestern variety of animals. She has become a “Master of Expression.” Her paintings exude a vibrancy and expression rarely found in animal art.

Darcy Dombey Manfredi
www.darcydombey.com
Darcy has always been interested in making art. She earned her degree in Studio Art in 1998 and started work on an M.F.A. But the enormous pressure to make conceptually challenging, politically charged, “important” art soon made her work feel forced, and she stopped enjoying the process. She didn’t pick up a paintbrush for several years. Then her Boston Terrier Ruby’s “crazy face” inspired her. She loved the resulting painting, and soon added one of her beautiful, clownish Doberman, Reyna.

In each subsequent work she has tried to capture the unique character of the dog, whether it be dignified, high-strung, courageous, or good naturedly goofy. Her paintings of pets are always joyful. They celebrate the loyal, noble, ridiculous companions we choose to add to our families. She is honored to contribute to PACC911 and she hopes you enjoy her work.

Susan Rene'
www.susanrene.com
Artist Susan Rene’ says, “magic happened when I combined my two loves…dogs and painting”. For many years Susan painted “serious” art, and was very successful as a “struggling artist”. One day she was feeling very down about her situation. To cheer herself up she painted one of her dogs, Charlie, living the good life, reclining in a lounge chair sipping a tall cool drink. At that time she had a small studio in the arts district on Miami Beach. The next day, the painting sold…..magic!

She has continued to paint and sell her whimsical dogs and cats and has never looked back. Susan now lives with her husband, Bill, and their four dogs, Whoopi, Lulu, Muffin, and Boo in Redmond, Washington and Mesa, Arizona.

Melany Terranova

Melany Terranova is a fifth generation artist whose current work has been influenced by her travels to Barcelona, Singapore, London, Italy and New York City. She recently participated in two Drawing/Painting Marathons at the prestigious New York Studio School under the direction of Graham Nickson. In her many roles as artist, author, teacher and mentor, she has been part of the Arizona art scene for more than twenty-five years. Terranova’s work is conceptual, urban, fresh and strong. She skillfully blends her reliance on chance with traditional, structured, classical artistic approaches. Often her work incorporates her signature netting technique. She often refers to her artwork as being “Fused Art.” Her work examines provocative issues that affect our culture both locally and globally, with a focus on the many layered textures in our lives. She explores the metaphoric pathways connecting the world’s complexities with the artistic process to create thought provoking images designed to stimulate personal reflection. Using mixed media, from life affirming symbolism of eggshells, to the storytelling powers of paint and text, to strings representing our primal need to connect with one another, she inspires observers to see something new through insightful portrayals of the many nuances of light and shadow that form the human spirit. At first glance, her pieces appear to be about relationships of light and shadow or form and geometry, but underneath there is always a secret, statement or observation she willingly shares with the buyer.
